Aquileia was one of the most important cities or the Roman Empire and a cultural centre in particular for the Slavic countries – the Cyrillic alphabet comes from Aquileia. Its roman ruins and the spectacular Basilica consecrated in 1031 represent today one of the most important cultural, art and archaeological sites in the world.
To the visitor, of great interest are, among other things, the Basilica and its Roman mosaics, the Roman harbour and the museum. For an archaeologist, the subjects of interest are simply endless.
